Season’s Change

Autumn leaves,
I rake the ground,
Pile of leaves,
Get blown around,
Scattered leaves,
Get covered in snow,

Where did you go?

Frozen leaves,
Thaw away,
Soggy leaves,
Get washed away.

With the TV on in the back,
We kissed.
She said, “I love you”
I paused.
I croaked, “I love you too.”
It wasn’t that I didn’t mean it.
It was that she didn’t believe it.

I sat there,
Eating,
Eating,
Eating.
The teacher came down,
Stormed in,
Door slammed,
Large grin with one thing on his mind.
“The reason why…blah…blah…blah…
blah, blah, blah,
blahblahblahblahblah
………………”
Scratches on the board,
clickclickclick.
“Therefore…”
I sat there,
Eating,
Eating,
Eating.

I was done before he was.

Elephant

Remember those nights at the park,
The stars would hide themselves,
Behind the clouds they were.
It would have been pretty dark,
Except those street lamps kept it bright.

Your camera doesn’t work,
No flash.
No hard copies of the past.
Just our minds
To wallow away and forget.
